-
Yes! Adults make up the majority of our students. We teach and cater for children, teens, students and adults of all ages. As well as catering for professional performers and circus artists.
-
Absolutely not! Just the same way you wouldn’t walk into a gym and expect to bench press 50kgs on your first day, you don’t have to arrive to your first class with any built-in muscles. In fact most of us didn’t! We will give you the tools and training over time to slowly build up your strength - each new skill you learn along the way will add to your strength, flexibility and sense of achievement!
-
Our members all have different reasons they come to practice aerials, a few are professional aerial artists and performers, but by and large most of our students are regular people with regular jobs who enjoy aerials for the movement, artistry, community and fitness aspects.
-
Download our app and book a class! You can book a casual session without having to commit to a membership. However, in order to learn at our studio, you will need to register as a member with us first.

Circus and aerials arts are often pigeon-holed with “extreme sport” type practices. Our practice does involve dangling from the ceiling above the ground, but we will keep you close to the ground as you are learning. As you grow in confidence, strength and skills your will have opportunities to try new more exciting skills higher off the ground.
You can be assured our equipment and rigging has been through significant safetly testing and has been rigorously cross-checked by several different local engineers and rigging companies.
All our classes are taught with large soft crash mats underneath each student that are comfortable to land on should you fall at all.
class questions
-
It is generally a good idea to wear clothing to protect your skin, in particular your legs, especially if you are taking a bar apparatus class such as Lyra/Aerial Hoop or Trapeze. The bar tape can be uncomfortable on exposed skin and sometimes you can get burns from sliding on the Silks or the Rope.
Wear something that is cool and easy to move around in. Choose pants that are tight fitting if possible, leggings or tights are best although slim line trackpants are also fine.
Remove jewellery from around you neck, hands and arms, and choose clothing without zips and buttons. This helps avoid any injuries, entanglement and stops any snagging on our fabric apparatuses.
-
A sense of humour and a little bit of bravery! Other than that, a drink bottle with water is a good idea.
-
Our classes are focused on fun! We have incredible team of supportive and kind instructors here at Aerial Academy ready to guide you on your aerial journey.
Our classes start with a warmup of about 10 mins, then there will be 5-10 mins of what we call “conditioning” which are exercises on the apparatus performed to increase your strength, and the rest of the class will be learning individual skills, tricks or a flow of movements linked together. We usually incorporate a cool-down for the final few mins of class before sending you on your way.
